McKevitt welcomes Grinan Road resurfacing

SDLP South Down MLA Karen McKevitt has welcomed the resurfacing of the Grinan Road at the Mill Dam which she hoped would avoid further incidents of flooding.

Speaking to Newry Times, she said: “There was a serious problem here with the flooding on this road for years. For example, in the floods in November it was blocked for more than 48 hours.

“It is a particular concern that if anything happens on the main Warrenpoint dual carriageway, the Grinan road is the only alternative route.

McKevitt added, “This stretch has been resurfaced but more importantly it has been raised on the crucial sections most liable to flooding, so road users and residents should avoid inconvenience and indeed danger if we get heavy rains again.”
