PSNI hits out at dangerous driving after roundabout incidents
Police in Newry are warning motorists to be mindful of traffic regulations and restrictions following a number of incidents in the Crieve Road area.
Over the last few days police have dealt with more than 12 people who have contravened directions on a new roundabout at Crieve Road, close to a new housing development.
Motorists are approaching from Monks Hill Road and are going around the roundabout in the wrong direction and onto Crieve Road toward Hilltown Road.
Speaking to Newry Times, Sergeant Gracey, Newry Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We have received a number of complaints about driving in this area and have carried out patrols over the last few days.
“There are ’roundabout ahead’ signs on Monks Hill Road, in addition to arrows built into the brick work of the roundabout, clearly showing the correct direction of travel so there is no excuse for blatant disregard of these directions.
Gracey added, “This constitutes dangerous driving and could pose a real risk to the people who populate and use this area for recreation. We will continue to monitor the area and would ask local motorists to pay attention and be mindful of all traffic regulations.”
