£3000 rowing boat damage sparks police investigation

Police in Newry are appealing for information following an incident of criminal damage during November.

During the early hours of Saturday, 24th November, 2012, a single sculls rowing boat, secured to the top of a BMW car was damaged. The car was parked in a hotel car park on Merchants Quay.

Around 3.10am a number of males approached the vehicle and started tampering with the boat. Damage caused to the elite level rowing boat amounted to £3000. The roof rack of the vehicle was also damaged.

It is believed there were a number of people and vehicles in the area at the time of this incident and police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the damage being caused or has information in relation to this incident to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
