£4 Million investment in Newry watermains

NI Water has announced that work is due to commence on the construction of new watermains in Newry City Centre.

The works form part of an ongoing £4.4 million investment by NI Water in the greater Newry area. The works will be located on Talbot Street, Sandys Street, Trevor Hill and Kildare Street. Work will commence in January 2013 and will take approximately fourteen weeks to complete.

In order to minimise traffic restrictions and reduce disruption to road users, work in Trevor Hill and Kildare Street will be carried out at night between the hours of 8pm – 6am Monday to Friday.

It is inevitable that works of this nature in a city centre location will cause some disruption. However, according to NI Water, all reasonable efforts will be made to minimise inconvenience to local residents and businesses. Access to all properties adjacent to the works will be maintained, with appropriate measures also taken to ensure safe passage of road users and pedestrians.

This programme of work is good news for the local area, particularly over the winter months, as the upgraded watermains, when complete, will improve the reliability and security of water supply, drinking water quality and will also help reduce leakage.

Customer queries regarding this work should be directed to Waterline on 08457 440088, quoting: “Lagan Construction Watermains Rehabilitation Programme”.
