Announcement on Old Dublin Road welcomed

Sinn Féin councillor Packie McDonald and Newry and Armagh MLA Megan Fearon have welcomed the decision by Roads Service for the inclusion of the B113 Old Dublin road, Newry on the salted network.

Speaking to Newry Times, Councillor McDonald said, “I have been consistently campaigning for the Old Dublin road to be gritted as there is a heavy flow of traffic travelling on this road.

“I welcome the decision by Roads Service senior management for the approved inclusion of the Old Dublin road to be added to the salted network.

He added, “I congratulate the community for their patience and determination with regards to this road, as a petition was signed by businesses, schools and residents requesting the road to be gritted.

“This result displays what we, as a community, can achieve when we organise ourselves efficiently and work successfully together.”

MLA Megan Fearon added, “I am pleased with Roads Service announcement that they are going to grit the Old Dublin Road when there is bad weather.

“My colleague Packie McDonald has been campaigning along with the community to get the road gritted as it is treacherous to drive on in frosty conditions and both he and the community must be commended for their persistence.”
