‘Kingsmills memorial vandals will not prevail’ – Bradley
SDLP Newry and Armagh MLA Dominic Bradley has said those behind sectarian graffiti on a memorial to the victims of the Kingsmills massacre do not represent the views of the vast majority of the community.
It was reported that sometime during the afternoon of Friday 30th November sectarian graffiti was scratched into the plaster on the walls of the memorial. Police say they are particularly keen to speak with the occupants of a silver coloured Volkswagen Bora seen in the area at approximately 4pm on the day.
Speaking to Newry Times, Bradley said, “I am appalled and disgusted by the discovery of this sectarian graffiti on a memorial to the victims of a heinous crime. The overwhelming majority of people in the community want to move forward and create a future which can be truly shared by all sides of our society.
“Those behind this graffiti do not represent us – they represent a retrograde mentality bent on fostering division, but let me send them a very clear message: they will not prevail.
He added, “If anyone has any information on this act of vandalism, they must report it to the police or Crimestoppers without delay.”
