Health in Your Community Grants for young people

The Southern Health and Social Care Trust and LIVE UnLtd have teamed up to offer grants to young people to tackle health issues within their community.Grants from £500 to £1,500 (depending on age group) are available for young people to run projects targeted at their peer group from March 2013.The scheme is part of the ‘Trust in Community’ initiative where the Southern Trust works with community and voluntary sector to address common issues.Thirteen young people received funding through last year’s grant scheme for a range of projects which addressed health issues and promoted healthier communities.

Gerard Rocks, Assistant Director for Promoting Wellbeing for the Southern Trust said,

“Trust in Community’ aims to pool our resources with our partners to meet the needs of local communities.

“This project is a great example of how we can use small pots of money to deliver projects for young people, by young people, whilst at the same time addressing health and wellbeing issues and building community relations.”

Ashley Whittley, Development Manager for Live UnLtd said: “Last year’s project was such a success that we had to repeat the scheme again to see if we could find even more entrepreneurial young people to implement their own innovative health orientated projects that will benefit their communities.

“We are looking forward to seeing what projects young people come up with this year and in supporting them to achieve success.”

The competition is open to individuals aged between 11 and 21 only – clubs and organisations cannot apply. Successful applicants must take part in a planning session and work with an advisor who will support them to ensure the success of their projects.
