McKevitt celebrates National Lottery Funding
SDLP South Down MLA Karen McKevitt has urged all community groups to make their case known for lottery funding, as the National Lottery celebrates its 18th birthday.
Speaking to Newry Times, McKevitt said, “It’s marvelous the way the National Lottery money returns to the local community groups and fund those areas that really require it in our area.
“With the legacy of the Olympics still bright in our minds the investment from the National Lottery into grassroots sports is a massive fillip for future generations to live and healthy lifestyle.
She added, “It’s 18 years since the first National Lottery Draw Show. This gives us all the chance to shout about the importance of lottery funding and how it has changed lives. Every week National Lottery players raise over £30million.
“From funding our Olympic and Paralympic athletes to grass roots sport, the National Lottery has invested in museums and galleries, local parks, artists, theatres, film, charities and local communities. Long may this continue.”
