Hearty ‘disgusted’ at latest case of illegal fuel dumping
Sinn Féin Councillor Terry Hearty has condemned the dumping of gallons of fuel waste on the banks of the River Fane at Culloville.
Speaking to Newry Times about the latest case, Councillor Hearty said,
“This is the latest incident of toxic waste being dumped in the South Armagh area, no consideration has been given to the environment or the people in this community when this despicable act was carried out.
“There is the potential danger that the fuel could enter into the water system and this water pollution could cause damage to wildlife and to members of the public.
He added, “The council has been made aware of the location of this waste, I would appeal to anyone with any information in regards to this latest incident of fuel dumping, to contact NIEA (Northern Ireland Environmental Agency).
“The cost of removing this waste ultimately falls on local rates and tax payers, I would urge those responsible to end this activity and show some consideration for the environment and members of the community.”
