The annual Chamber Gala Dinner and the iconic Newry Christmas Charity Business Lunch are coming together for the first time to create a unique Chamber Christmas Charity Dinner which will take place in the Canal Court Hotel on Thursday 6th December starting at 5.30pm.

The event will support a number of local charities including through the renowned ‘Toy Mountain’ where guests are asked to take an unwrapped toy with them to be distributed through local organisations.

The event will also support ‘The Michaela Foundation- Life without Limits’ which will benefit from the proceeds of the raffle. Newry Chamber extends a warm welcome to Michaela McAreavey’s husband John and father Mickey Harte as guest speakers for the event.

Speaking to Newry Times, Cathal Austin, President, Newry Chamber of Commerce & Trade said, “This promises to be a fantastic evening bringing together two of the biggest events in the city.

“We are taking all the fun, festivities and generous giving of the Christmas Charity Lunch and bringing it to an evening event where people can come straight from work to support local causes, celebrate their Christmas party or simply use it as a networking opportunity.

He continued, “The Christmas Charity event is vital for raising funds for many local organisations in the run up to Christmas and we really hope that this new format can be even bigger and better than ever.

“The much loved Santa Run will take place this year as part of the Christmas Light Switch on, in Newry City on Thursday 22nd November.

“This year we are encouraging families, young people and groups to take part as well as businesses and again we hope to build on the excitement of 120 years of the Chamber to make this the most exciting Santa Run ever.”

Austin added, “Newry has always achieved so much through its business community spirit. We hope that companies of all sizes, from sole traders to large multi nationals who are operating in our city, will see this as an opportunity to show support for how we are trying to grow businesses in all sectors while supporting charities at the very heart of our community.”

Feargal McCormick from the organising committee of the Chamber Christmas Charity Dinner said,

“We are delighted to be combining these two fabulous events in the 120th Anniversary year for the Chamber. We hope that the new format will attract people whose business didn’t allow for a lunch event and hope that those who traditionally enjoyed the lunch will appreciate not having to go back to work after the event.

“The Chamber Christmas Charity Dinner will start at 5.30pm on Thursday 6th December with dinner at 6pm sharp and the idea is for people to come from work to enjoy the festivities while supporting some very worthy causes.”

Tickets for the event are priced at £50 each (+VAT) including dinner, wine and entertainment. Tables of 10 are available and all are welcome.
