Spread the Warmth campaign
Sinn Féin MLA Chris Hazzard has called on people to support the AGE NI Spread the Warmth Campaign in order to ensure older people are not left without heat over the winter months.
“Even a mild winter can have a terrible impact upon an older person if they do not have the proper ability to maintain a warm home and environment. Many pensioners have found that with the rising cost of home heating oil and electricity they are unable to heat their home at all times during the winter months.
“This results in many either suffering in the cold or falling ill due to the conditions. The AGE NI scheme is designed to target these vulnerable pensioners and ensure that they can access help if they need it.
He continued, “Not only does the scheme respond to the problems facing the elderly it also provides information in how to maintain a warm home or the best type of clothes to wear in the cold weather.
“I would ask people to support this campaign and one of the easiest things they can do is look after an elderly neighbour by contacting them now and make sure they are prepared for the winter months. This relationship can continue over the winter so that we lessen the number of elderly people who will fall into the vulnerable category.
“Another way to support the campaign is to donate a coat to AGE NI which can be sold through one of their outlets to provide money for AGE NI to carry out their charitable work,” Hazzard added.
