Independent republican councillor for Newry and Mourne Davy Hyland has welcomed the introduction of Irish language classes for councillors. Speaking about the introduction of the ten weekly classes Hyland said, “This is a great initiative to help try and promote the language in the council, particularly for elected representatives who would want to use the Irish language as often as possible within the council chamber.” He added,  “The revitalisation of the Irish language is very important and projects like this can go a long way in helping with the cultural revival.”
