Boylan welcomes Executive ESA agreement

Sinn Féin Newry Armagh MLA Cathal Boylan has welcomed the fact that the Executive has agreed on legislation to replace the North’s 5 Education Boards with a single Education and Skills Authority (ESA).

Speaking to Newry Times, Boylan said;

“The cross-party agreement to bring forward the ESA legislation at the Executive is to be welcomed and it is of course long overdue. Sinn Féin has long argued that a single body would be more effective and economical that the current arrangement.”

“The legislation will now be brought before the Assembly and it will be a significant step forward in the strategic planning and delivery of our education system.”

He added, “I would like to commend the work of all those who have worked tirelessly in the Education sector over many years in a number of fields. We now need to put in place a 21st century system that is efficient, effective and delivers educationally. In doing that however we need to ensure that this change is handled as smoothly as possible.”
