Newry and Mourne Co-Operative secure £500,000 from Big Lottery Fund

Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has welcomed the news that Newry and Mourne Co-Operative Ltd have secured £498,650 for their Work4U Plus Project, from the Big Lottery Fund.

Speaking to Newry Times, Ruane said,

“The Big Lottery Fund Reaching Out: Connecting Older People Programme provides training programmes for older vulnerable people and those involved in working with older people.

“Newry & Mourne Co-Op will use this grant to run Work4U Plus which provides training and support services for vulnerable and isolated young people aged 14-18 in disadvantaged areas of Newry and Mourne, Banbridge and Armagh.”

She added, “Many of these people are not involved in education or training and are at risk of turning to anti-social behaviour or criminal activity so this scheme will not only help them gain experience but will also bring about personal development.”
