New Outpatients Department at Daisy Hill Hospital
The new Outpatients Department at Daisy Hill Hospital is now open for business.
The new accommodation is the result of a renovation close to £500,000 of the former Maternity and Gynae Outpatients Department on the ground floor.
The new department is providing the specialised environment needed for ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) and Audiology Assessment and includes three new sound booths. It also houses two Pre-Operative Assessment rooms and two additional consulting rooms, providing much needed clinical accommodation.
General outpatients activity is also continuing from the existing outpatients department.
Dr Gillian Rankin, Director of Acute Services for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust says: “The number of outpatients attending Daisy Hill has increased by 12,000 in the past five years, and there was a real need to improve the accommodation to meet this growing demand.
“We are delighted to have been able to upgrade the accommodation and to provide modern facilities for patients and staff.”
Health Minister, Edwin Poots MLA toured the new department and met with staff and patients during a recent visit to the hospital. Speaking after his visit the Minister said,
“I was very much impressed by the by the quality of both the new Outpatients facility and the dedication of the staff working there.
“This new facility will provide additional capacity for the many people who use Daisy Hill Hospital’s outpatient services every year, and particularly those with hearing conditions who will now be assessed and treated in a specialised area.”
