Police in Newry are appealing for information following an assault on the Newry towpath. At around 7pm on Saturday, 25th August a 19 year old female was assaulted by a male on the towpath, which runs from Edward Street to the rear of Clanrye Swimming Pool. The male struck her with a bottle on the path close to the swimming pool and the female sustained lacerations to her hand which required medical treatment. Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the assault. They are particularly keen to speak to a male who offered assistance to the victim following the attack. Police at Ardmore Police Station can be contacted in 0845 600 8000.
