SDLP to set up ‘Perth office’
The SDLP is to establish a branch in the Perth area of Australia. This week SDLP South Down MLA Karen McKevitt accompanied the people behind this initiative Micheal Kelly, originally from the Corrags area of Burren, and his wife Chris, an Australian native, to Stormont for a tour.
The couple, who now live in Perth, have been doing a series of podcasts with local SDLP activists and have organised fundraising events to help the SDLP in the South Down/Newry area and hey will set up a Perth branch of the SDLP in the coming weeks.
Speaking to Newry Times, McKevitt said: “It is great to have Micheal and his wife Chris at the home of government in the North, Stormont.
“They have been a fantastic friend of the SDLP and are now driving forward a party organisation in Perth, an area where so many people from the South Down and Newry area have emigrated to in search of work and a better life.”
She added, “This is all part of the SDLP’s commitment to serve our constituents and represent people on the issues which are important to them at home or abroad.”
