McKevitt calls for improved play facilities in Hilltown
SDLP MLA for South Down Karen McKevitt and SDLP Councillor Sean O’Hare are calling on Newry and Mourne District Council to improve the play park equipment in Spelga Park, Hilltown.
Speaking to Newry Times, McKevitt said, “Sean O’Hare and I visited the park recently after constituents contacted us with concerns about the lack of play equipment for local children. It is evident that the equipment in the park has been there for quite some time and needs to be upgraded.
“There is also great potential to increase the play area and this is something I have asked Newry and Mourne District Council to look into.”
Councillor O’Hare added, “I have been calling for the play area in Spelga Park to be updated and improved for some time now. It is not acceptable that parents are left with no choice but to drive to Warrenpoint, Kilbroney or Newry so their children can play in a good park.
“Having a safe place nearby where children can play makes a huge difference to families which is why I will continue fighting for the play area in Spelga Park to be improved.”
