Farm Modernisation Programme opens
Sinn Féin local agriculture spokesperson Terry Hearty has advised farmers that the DARD Farm Modernisation Programme will be open for applications from 4th September until 19th October 2012.
Explaining the scheme Councillor Hearty spoke to Newry Times and stated,
“This programme has been designed to help farmers modernise their farm equipment to make their farm more efficient and safer. Produce from South Armagh farms is exported all over the world so it is vital that local farmers have the most up to date equipment so they can compete in the global agriculture market.”
“Using modern equipment also reduces the number of farm accidents which is extremely important,” he added.
This tranche of the scheme will make £5.5 million in grants available for the upgrade of machinery. Since the beginning of the scheme nearly 3000 farmers have benefited.
Forms and information booklets can be obtained from Newry DARD Office, Glenree House, Carnbane Industrial Estate or by going to www.dardni.gov.uk
