PIPS Newry launch ‘Balloon Release’ for World Suicide Awareness Day
To mark ‘World Suicide Awareness Day’ on Monday 10th September 2012, PIPS Newry & Mourne has invited the local community and all interested parties to attend their annual Balloon Release Event at 1pm outside the Newry Town Hall.
Various events and activities are held during this occasion to raise awareness that suicide is a major preventable cause of premature death. This year’s theme is “Suicide Prevention across the Globe: Strengthening Protective Factors and Instilling Hope”
World Suicide Awareness Day is an opportunity for all sectors of the community – those bereaved by suicide, the public, charitable organisations, communities, other interested groups and individuals – to join with PIPS Newry & Mourne to focus public attention on the unacceptable burden and costs of suicidal behaviours with diverse activities to promote understanding about suicide and highlight effective prevention activities.
“The annual balloon release is an opportunity to remember all our loved ones who have died by suicide in our local community,” a spokesperson for PIPS Newry added.
