Mourne Junior Athletics Club members were pleased to welcome Olympic Torch bearer Hannah Hopkins and Mayor of Newry and Mourne, Councillor John McArdle to their club recently. The Junior Athletics Club has 30 young aspiring athletes who were able to have their photo taken with the Olympic Torch. The Mayor commended all the young people on their involvement with the Club and said he hoped they would be encouraged to continue developing their sport and perhaps one day we would see some of them at the Olympic games. The Club also used the visit as a means to raise some money for Cystic Fibrosis Trust charity nominated by Hannah Hopkins. Chairman of the Club, Jenny Hanna, thanked Hannah and the Mayor for attending and showing their support to the club members.
