Sean Hollywood Bursary Programme for Arts and Sports

Newry and Mourne District Council were delighted to launch the Sean Hollywood Bursary Programme for (Arts/Sports) 2012/2013 in The Sean Hollywood Arts Centre on Friday 10th August 2012.

Mayor John McArdle joined arts/museum Chairperson Mr. Anthony Russell and staff, to launch the 2012/2013 fund. The fund originated from The Sean Hollywood Memorial Trust that has been in existence for over 10 years. The Trust was formed to honour the memory of the late Sean Hollywood, who gave so much of his life to the development of the dramatic arts, sports, politics, and social fabric in the area.

The Trust championed the cause of providing support to young people from our area embarking on further studies in either the arts or in a sporting discipline. Newry and Mourne Council supported the Trust in their work, and now that the Trust has been wound up, the Council are continuing to support these individuals through this Bursary Programme.

A total fund of £2,500 has been made available to be shared among successful applicants. Applicants should note that the award is given both arts and sporting disciplines. Applications are invited from nominating Organisations/Colleges on behalf of individuals who have already gained experience and qualifications in their chosen field, but who are embarking on further studies and feel that the Bursary will not only help them, but will enable them to use their skills for the benefit of the wider community.
