‘Blayney Crescent lighting problems causing distress’ – Harte
Newry Sinn Féin councillor Valerie Harte has been in touch with DRD Minister Danny Kennedy regarding street lighting in Newry’s Blayney Crescent.
Harte explained to Newry Times, “A new lighting scheme was installed here recently but unfortunately it is not working properly. Residents have informed me that there are black spots where the light does not reach.”
“Blayney Crescent has a high population of elderly residents and the lack of adequate lighting does nothing to reduce the chances of people falling and injuring themselves in the dark. People are also afraid that the poor lighting may lead to an increased risk of robberies and many are not feeling as safe as they should.”
She added, “I have written to Minister Kennedy and he informs me that he will look into the matter. I will keep locals up to date on the progress of this issue.”
