SOAR funding announced for Rostrevor & District Community Association

Southern Organisation for Action in Rural Areas (SOAR) is delighted to award financial assistance of over £5,825.78 to Rostrevor & District Community Association for the upgrade of their Community Centre located on Water Street, Rostrevor.

After a successful assessment process, Rostrevor & District Community Association was awarded grant aid to undertake an upgrade of the current facility. The Community Centre is today looking attractive, vibrant, and modern in the heart of the County Down Village following an upgrade and facelift as part funded by SOAR.

Led by Craigavon Borough Council, Armagh City and District Council and Newry and Mourne District Council, SOAR delivers funding from the Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme in partnership with the Department of Agricultural and Rural Development to projects relating to farm diversification, growing rural businesses, encouraging tourism, developing new rural community services and telling the cultural heritage story.

Applications for grant aid are due to open later in 2012. This grant aid will allow people living in these rural areas to invest in a new farm diversification project or rural business or to expand existing projects and businesses.

Miceal McCoy Chairperson of SOAR’s Local Action Group stated,”I would like to congratulate Rostrevor & District Community Association on the re-launch of the newly refurbished Community Hall. This is an excellent example of a local community organisation working together and gaining the necessary financial assistance from SOAR, which will provide access to basic services to those in the area.

“SOAR are proud to be associated with a project that is as successful as that undertaken by Rostrevor & District Community Association –  a vibrant and modern facility which the residents of Rostrevor & Killowen can enjoy for many years to come. May I wish the community best wishes for all their plans for the future.”

Grants of up to £50,000 for Businesses are available for equipment, renovation of underused buildings or capital construction of new buildings to house new businesses. £5,000 is also available for marketing activities such as the development of websites, new brochures to promote a business and their services and products, as well as new signage.
