New outdoor attraction in Newry and Mourne

Southern Organisation for Action in Rural Areas (SOAR) is delighted to award financial assistance of over £11,742 to East Coast Adventure Centre for a climbing wall. East Coast was successful in securing the funding under the Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme Axis 3 Measure 3.1 Farm Diversification.

At time of application, East Coast Adventure Centre wanted to ‘add on’ to existing facilities in order to help strengthen the market share by providing a large and comprehensive range of sporting and recreational activities which are otherwise unavailable in the area.

The applicant researched the need for a mobile climbing wall in the area and received support from many youth groups and schools across Northern Ireland. In order to minimize the costs to these groups and schools, East Coast Adventure purchased a climbing wall which could be transported to various locations across the country.

After a successful assessment process, East Coast Adventure was awarded grant aid to undertake the purchase of the climbing wall.

East Coast Adventure was established to deliver a selection of land and water based activities to youth groups, schools and corporate teams and families, since then this company has grown from strength to strength and are renowned for their activities and youth work in the area.

Applications for grant aid are due to open later in 2012.  This grant aid will allow people living in these rural areas to invest in a new farm diversification project or rural business  or to expand existing projects and businesses.

Miceal McCoy Chairperson of SOAR’s Local Action Group stated ” This is another excellent example of a local business gaining the necessary financial assistance from SOAR, which will provide much fun to the local population. SOAR are proud to be associated with the success that is East Coast Adventure, a vibrant and forward thinking local company who are determined to grow in reputation.”

Grants of up to £50,000 for Businesses are available for equipment, renovation of underused buildings or capital construction of new buildings to house new businesses.  £5,000 is also available for marketing activities such as the development of websites, new brochures to promote a business and their services and products, as well as new signage.
