Newry Women’s Aid secure £120,000 funding
Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has welcomed the news that Newry and Mourne Women’s Aid have secured £120,000 from the Big Lottery Fund.
Speaking to Newry Times, Ruane said,
“Newry and Mourne Women’s Aid have received £120,000 Big Lottery funding and this grant will help run projects supporting women and their families who are victims of domestic, sexual and alcohol abuse. The project will work closely with healthcare units on a Trust wide basis and create referral pathways for specialised domestic, sexual violence and abuse services for victims and their children.”
“It will deliver its service through a combination of outreach and drop in services across the trust’s area. Children and young people will also be offered support to help them deal with the trauma of witnessing domestic violence and alcohol misuse. There will also be a service for women, children and young people who will be offered specialised support programmes to help identify their needs, in order to reduce their level of risk, increase their safety and develop their independence.”
Ruane added, “I would like to pay tribute to Women’s Aid for the important work they do, our society needs to build a zero tolerance in relation to violence against women and children. I am confident that this money will be used in a positive effect to lessen the impact of domestic violence on families and allow people to get their lives back together.”
