On the brink: Newry City F.C opening game postponed by IFA
The future of Newry City F.C is in jeopardy after the IFA revealed that Newry’s scheduled game tomorrow against Loughgall has been postponed.
Tomorrow’s opening game against the Championship One outfit was cancelled by the IFA who said it would give city time to “clarify their position”.
Newry, who narrowly missed out on promotion from Championship One last season, have had well publicised financial problems in the past 12 months and they are the subject of a winding up petition, which be heard in the High Court on 6th September 2012.
The IFA released a statement this evening and stated, “It is a matter of public record that Newry City FC Limited are the subject of a ‘winding up petition’ due to heard in the High Court on 6th September, 2012.”
The statement added, “The Committee determined it appropriate that the Belfast Telegraph Championship 1 fixture between Newry City and Loughgall which was due to be played on Saturday, 11 August 2012 (tomorrow) be postponed to allow Newry City FC Ltd time to clarify their position.”
