Hazzard urges local taxi operators to attend Information Day

With Taxi Operating Licensing being introduced next month, Sinn Féin MLA Chris Hazzard is calling on local taxi operators to engage with the Department of the Environment (DOE) information day in the Canal Court in Newry on the 29th August.

Speaking to Newry Times, Hazzard said;

“The Department’s new licensing process is aimed at improving the level of accountability and self-regulation within the system. This will hopefully help eliminate illegal taxiing as operators will only be allowed to use properly licensed vehicles and drivers.”

The local Assemblyman added;

“Taxi operators will have the option of purchasing a one, three, or five year license with the initial application fee reduced from £140 to £40 for all applications received before 31st October 2012. In light of this I would appeal to local taxi operators to attend the information day in Newry as DOE officials will be providing advice and guidance on the application process.”
