Ruane meets DRD Roads Service about Burren footpath

Sinn Féin MLA Caitríona Ruane and Councillor Peter Kearney have met with David Ewing and Ned Shannon from DRD Roads Service to discuss the building of a footpath along Milltown Street in Burren from the chapel to the local supermarket.

Speaking to Newry Times, Ruane said,

“We have been campaigning for a footpath to be built along this stretch of roadway for the past few months so I welcome the opportunity to discuss it with DRD Road Service managers. We highlighted our safety concerns for pedestrians using this stretch of roadway especially children and received a favourable response.”

“The DRD Road Service have given us a commitment to install the footpath as soon as funding is available although this won’t be in this financial year.

She added, “We will continue to lobby the DRD Road Service to push ahead with this project as quickly as possible so that we can improve the safety of all those using this road.”
