Sinn Féin welcome forthcoming ‘Community Transport Week’
Chris Hazzard MLA will be part of a Sinn Féin delegation to meet this week with Down Community Transport ahead of the forthcoming Community Transport Week.
Speaking to Newry Times, Hazzard welcomed the event whilst praising the work of the locally based charity.
“Down District and Ards Transport operates a number of accessible door-to-door travel services across the county for individuals and community groups on a non-profit making basis. Transport is a service most of us now a days take for granted. But for a huge number of people, particularly across County Down which is a mostly rural district, accessible transport continues to be an on-going issue for people living in areas with low or poor infrastructure.”
“DDAT provides a range of services that help to combat these issues, especially for people with impaired mobility who find it difficult to use other modes of transport.”
He added, “I look forward to meeting with representatives of DDAT to learn more about the plans they have to continue to serve the whole of the Down community. I would encourage local people to use Community Transport Week as an opportunity to engage with DDAT and learn more about the services they provide.”
