Crossmaglen Sinn Féin councillor Terry Hearty has lambasted those responsible for fly tipping at the Recycling Centre located at the SuperValu complex in the town. Speaking to Newry Times, Hearty said, “Those responsible for this illicit dumping are jeopardising the whole future of the service. Newry & Mourne council has estimated that an additional £18,000 was used in supplementary cleaning of this site over the past 12 months – this is an unfair burden on local ratepayers and to be frank this money could be much better utilised elsewhere.” He added,“I am calling for the introduction of CCTV at the premises which may be expensive in the short term but is the only viable solution to this problem.  I would call on those responsible, many of whom do not live in this district, to stop this practice immediately.”
