Community, What's On
So what’s special about 24th of July? On 24th of July each year Samaritans all over the UK and Ireland celebrate the fact that they continue to provide emotional support to all people in need of support for the 24 hours of every day of the 7 day week…..hence 24/7. To celebrate this, Newry Samaritans are holding an event in the Central Bus Station, Newry at 2pm tomorrow (July 24th). The mayor of Newry will be in attendance with Big O for a balloon launch. Every 6 seconds someone needing support calls Samaritans. As part of Samaritans’ annual awareness day 24:7, volunteers from the Newry and Dundalk branch are preparing for the arrival of David Exley on 17th August 2012. David is a Samaritan volunteer, who is motorcycling around the UK and Ireland to raise awareness of the charity. You can contact the Samaritans on the phone on 02830266366, also on text message 07725 90 90 90, e-mail and they also offer face to face support in their branch at 19, St, Colman’s Park, Newry. Their mission is to alleviate distress and reduce the incidence of suicidal feelings and behaviour. All contact with Samaritans is confidential and they do not judge or criticise and are there for you every step of the way. They also believe that opening up and chatting to someone can help alleviate emotional distress. Remember, you don’t have to be suicidal to contact Samaritans. Samaritans is also available over the Christmas period. They are very grateful for the generosity of the people of Dundalk and surrounding areas. Thank you! Samaritans is there for you.
