‘Ambulance station delay unacceptable’ – Murphy
MP Conor Murphy has described the delay by the Department of Health in delivering the long awaited ambulance station for South Armagh as ‘totally unacceptable’. Murphy said he has written to Health Minister Edwin Poots to enquire into the delay in securing premises for the new ambulance station.
Speaking to Newry Times, Murphy said,
“Following an extensive lobbying campaign both locally and in the Assembly I received correspondence from Minister Poots in December confirming that the Department of Health had committed to providing this vital service in South Armagh. At that time possible locations in Crossmaglen and Newtownhamilton were being considered. It is now July and there does not appear to have been any further progress made on the issue.”
“This is completely unacceptable to me due to the gross disadvantage this places on the health and well-being of people living across south Armagh. The arguments for an ambulance base to be located within south Armagh are many and have been vociferously demanded for years.”
He added, “It is high time that all of my constituents were afforded the same level of healthcare and access to emergency services and so I have written to the Minister once again requesting an urgent update on progress on this matter.”
