Young entrepreneurs inspired by ‘Jedi Jim’ at Youth Fest NI

Plans for Ireland’s largest free youth event, Youth Fest NI are well underway with organisers putting the final details to a schedule of free events all day to suit families with young children and teens.

Youth Fest NI – 7th July, Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor – is an ambitious cross border initiative from a committee of young professionals who wanted to create a free summer event for children and young adults which would showcase youth entertainment; make a positive contribution to reducing juvenile crime and encourage would-be entrepreneurs.

Youth Fest NI is supported by youth patron Ryan Cinnamond and will be compared by UTV’s Paul Clark. On the day Kilbroney Park will play host to a range of events from 10am to late evening. Families can try their hand at treasure hunts, enjoy puppet shows, music and art workshops and face painting for younger kids during the morning sessions, with the afternoon giving way to action packed adventures like Zorbing, Zipslides, Drum workshops and you can join in the street dance and Zumba demos. Two marquees will facilitate indoor events while the park provides a natural arena for sport and dance activities.

The evening will wind down to a backdrop of the tunes from the Youth Music Stage featuring local artists Microlip, Ryan Dolan, Warrenpoint’s band The Shout, Animal Party and music also by Nathan Mullan and Emma Slater. For a full list of activities see www.youthfestni.com

One unique aspect of the event is the focus on encouraging young entrepreneurs to see self employment as a viable career option. There will be an afternoon masterclass with Apprentice Star ‘Jedi’ Jim Eastwood and teens can also hear from Young Apprentice winner Jamie McCullagh on getting a foot on the employment ladder.

Speaking to Newry Times, Jim commented, “I am really looking forward to taking part in this year’s newest festival to Rostrevor. It will be an excellent opportunity for young people in the area to come together and enjoy themselves as well as sharing ideas and opportunities. The masterclass which I will be giving will aim to inspire and encourage anyone who feels that could be a young entrepreneur by giving them tips on how to kick start a career.

Jedi Jim added, “It will run from 2pm to 6pm and everyone is welcome to come along. I hope that the session will contribute in some way to what promises to be an extremely successful event.”
