Police investigate spate of burglaries in Newry and Armagh

Detectives in Newry are investigating a series of burglaries and suspicious incidents in the Armagh and Newry area over the weekend (Sat 30th June – Sun 1st July).

The incidents reported include a creeper style burglary in the Baltarran Road area of Armagh at around 9:40pm on Sat evening (30th June). The house was broken into and the garage door rammed by thieves who stole a Vauxhall Corsa that was later recovered nearby in field along with a Silver Skoda Octavia VRM that had been used by four men seen acting suspiciously in the Armagh Road earlier in the evening.

A second creeper style burglary occurred in the Baltarran Road around 12:40am on Sun morning 1st July.  Again the property was entered, ransacked, and a blue VW Golf was taken.

Shortly after 9pm on Sat 30th June burglars tried to enter a house on the Gosford Road, Markethill. A rear bedroom window was smashed and the wires of the alarm cut. At this stage it is not known if anything was taken. A number of similar attempts were made in the area of Lower Foughill Road, Newry and Glenanne Road, Glenanne and again it is not believed that anything was taken.

A link between these incidents is a strong line of inquiry.

Anyone who witnessed any of the incidents above, who noticed any unusual activity in the area, in particular the movements of a silver coloured car, or who has any information is asked to contact detectives at Ardmore Newry on 0845 600 8000.  Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
