Green Flag Eco Schools Presentation
Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council, Councillor John McArdle, has welcomed local schools to the Council Boardroom for the annual presentation ceremony of Green Flags as part of the Eco Schools programme. St Malachy’s Primary School Carnagat, St Malachy’s Primary School Ballymoyer, St Joseph’s Convent Primary School Newry and St Mary’s High School Newry all received their first green flags.
Councillor McArdle, speaking to the teachers and pupils attending the presentation ceremony said, “This is a tremendous achievement. The Green Flag award is internationally recognised and only obtained by those schools who have reached the highest of environmental standards. Well done to all the staff and pupils whose hard work has resulted in these awards. A special word of congratulations to the members of the Eco Committees present here today. You have taken the lead by making sure that your school cares about the environment.”
Joanna McDonnell, representing the Eco Schools Programme, stated, “I am delighted to see the continued success of the Eco Schools programme in the Newry and Mourne District Council area. We have not only added four new green flag schools this year, taking the total to fifteen, but have also increased the overall number of registered schools to 72% of schools in the district.”
