Ruane says Loughinisland commemorations ‘successful’
Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has said that the successful weekend of events to commemorate the Loughinisland massacre were held with dignity and that it highlighted the injustices that are still being faced by the family.
Speaking to Newry Times, Ms. Ruane said,
“I would like to thank everyone who came out over the weekend to support the families of the men murdered at Loughinisland. The series of events were well attended and held in a dignified matter and I would like to acknowledge the support from The Bloody Sunday, Ballymurphy and the McGurks Bar campaigns.
“Not only did the commemoration highlight the injustices visited upon the families it outlined the work that is needed to bring out the truth. The gesture by the Irish soccer team to wear black armbands will also add an international dimension to the campaign”
She added, “The British Government have, in my belief deliberately thwarted the investigation into these murders as collusion at the highest levels were at the heart of them. After 18 years it is time for the truth to emerge and I would call on everyone to get behind the campaign to get justice for the families.”
