Ruane calls for traffic calming measures for Hilltown School

Sinn Féin MLA Caitríona Ruane has asked the Department of Regional Development Road Service for an update on traffic calming measures outside St Patrick’s Primary school Hilltown.

Speaking to Newry Times, Ms. Ruane stated, “I had received several requests from parents asking for safety lights to be situated at the school and lobbied the DRD Road Service on their behalf. The instillation of these flashing lights will alert unsuspecting motorists to the fact that there is a school along their route and allow them to take precautions such as lowering their speed in anticipation of children in the vicinity. ”

She added, “The Road Service have previously indicated that the traffic calming measures were to be included in the budget for 2012/2013 in the road safety scheme.  I have now contacted the Road Service for an update on when the scheme will commence, as it is important for the safety of our children that it is implemented as soon as possible.”
