Award winning ‘Healthy Hearts Toolkit’ comes to Newry

British Heart Foundation (BHF) Northern Ireland’s award winning ‘Pass it On Training’ using the Healthy Hearts Toolkit was recently delivered in the local community as part of Give it A Go month long calendar of events during March.

In 2010 the BHF Northern Ireland’s Healthy Hearts Kit was recognised as the winner of the BMA Patient Information Resource of the Year Award, and now there are locally trained health promoters from the community sector trained to educate people how they can look after their hearts through interactive sessions.

The Public Health Agency, Southern Health and Social Care Trust, Southern Group Environmental Health Committee, Armagh City & District Council, Banbridge District Council, Craigavon Borough Council and Newry & Mourne District Council all joined forces to provide a healthy living initiative to give everyone the opportunity to ‘Give it a Go!’

Eating well and being active are two of the most important things we can do to keep well, feel great and help prevent many of the health problems that are common in Northern Ireland today.

Stephanie Leckey, Area Development Manager with BHF Northern Ireland outlined “The Healthy Hearts toolkit is an excellent resource for community development and Health improvement staff to use. It is evidence based and is an interactive toolkit which helps the staff get the key messages across about the risk factors for Coronary Heart Disease.”
