Whitecross Athletic make history

Whitecross Athletic capped a memorable season on Friday evening by becoming the first team to win the First Division and the Gilmore Cup in the same campaign after an epic 3-2 win over North End Strollers. Remarkably, this is only Whitecross’ second season in the Carnbane League.

Ally Bann took his season’s tally to 39 with a first half double for Whitecross but goals early in the second half from ‘Strollers Brian Dillon and Stephen Lowry blew this final wide open. An own goal then gave the lead back to Whitecross with fifteen minutes left. Whitecross ‘keeper Cahal McParland ensured the Gilmore Cup was heading to South Armagh though, denying the Strollers an equaliser with some heroic goalkeeping in the remainder of the game.
