MP wishes Newry Paralympic Volunteer Ádh Mór for London 2012

MP for Newry Armagh Conor Murphy has met with local man Diarmuid Sands adhead of his participation in the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Mr Sands, who is the only volunteer to be selected out of 47 local applicants, will be based in the press section and will have responsibility for dealing with photographers from all over the world.

Conor Murphy met Diarmuid along with Volunteer Now Manager Colette Ruddy at Volunteer Now’s Newry headquarters at Ballybot House.

Speaking to Newry Times, Conor said, “I was contacted a number of weeks ago by Volunteer Now and invited to become a volunteer champion. I was delighted with this invitation as I believe the work undertaken by individuals in the community and voluntary sector is second to none.”

“Volunteers who give up their free time and dedicate themselves to helping others and their communities should be encouraged, supported and celebrated and so I am delighted to be here to wish Diarmuid ádh mór as he sets off on his London experience.”

Murphy added, “I hope that Diarmuid will enjoy his trip and I would love to meet him on his return to hear how it all went.”
