Newry and Armagh MLA Danny Kennedy has expressed his regret at the news that Bessbrook Police Station is to finally close. Speaking to Newry Times, the Ulster Unionist representative said: “This news will be greeted with dismay by the local community who greatly value the Police Station and who throughout the Troubles had cause to be grateful for the protection it provided.” Kennedy added, “I would urge the Police to ensure that a strong presence is retained in the area and I would also like to pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of all those Police officers and soldiers who were stationed there over the decades and did so much to defend the community in south Armagh and far beyond.” Related articles: Bessbrook Police Station to close ‘within weeks’
