McGreevy welcomes Kilbroney tourism boost

Rostrevor Councillor Connaire McGreevy has expressed delight at news that Kilbroney Park will be a venue for the World Police and Fire Games to be held in 2013.

Speaking to Newry Times, McGreevy said: “It is fantastic news that Kilbroney Park will be a host venue for the World Police and Fire Games in 2013. I commend the officials and especially my SDLP colleague Karen McKevitt MLA who worked behind the scenes for the last 3 years to ensure that this was delivered. Kilbroney Park in Rostrevor will be an excellent venue to showcase the very best of our district.”

He continued, “With an estimated 25,000 visitors including participants and their family and friends coming to the North to the games it promises to be a bumper tourism boost for Rostrevor and the surrounding area. I hope the private sector can grasp this opportunity and that we see plans coming forward to boost bed numbers back to the glory days when there were many hotels in the area.”

“As the SDLP elected representative for Rostrevor I am delighted to see this announcement,” he added.
