‘Olympic torch visit historic’ – Clarke
Alliance Newcastle Councillor Patrick Clarke has described the arrival of the Olympic torch as an historic occasion for Down District.
Clarke is also encouraging local residents living in Dundrum and Newcastle to get up early to follow and support the Olympic Torch relay which will head through Down District on Thursday 7th June. Both Newcastle and Dundrum will be part of the Olympic Torch relay route through Down District which will enter Newcastle at 06.53am and Dundrum at 07.32am.
Clarke stated: “The Olympic Torch Relay will be a once in a life time opportunity for people to experience and see the Olympic Torch as it makes its way through Newcastle, Dundrum and across Down District on June 7th. I would like to encourage as many people of all ages and children to turn up in Newcastle and Dundrum at least thirty minutes before the arrival of the Olympic torch.”
“It would be great to see arrival of the Olympic torch into Down District being welcomed by large crowds of supporters in Newcastle and Dundrum to see what will be an historic and momentous occasion.”
He added, “I look forward to also welcoming the Olympic Torch to Newcastle and Dundrum as well as Down District and supporting the inspirational people who have been chosen to carry the Olympic Torch.”
