CARRICKCRUPPEN 0-8 DROMINTEE 0-16

Carrickcruppen’s poor form on their travels continued last Friday night when they were comprehensively beaten by Dromintee on a scoreline of 0-16 to 0-8. ‘Cruppen played against the wind in the first half and had been defensively sound and maintained the ball throughout passages of play, backing each other up against a physically challenging Dromintee side.

At the halftime whistle ‘Cruppen looked the stronger going in just one point down against the wind. Dromintee got their tactics spot on in the second half pulling everyone behind the ball, Cruppen didn’t push up as they should have and often allowed Dromintee to play possession football; often fist passing the ball to the spare men that they had in numbers. ‘Cruppen had still been in the game with 10 minutes to go but Dromintee showed greater heart and determination and pulled away to win the game.

This was another disappointing performance for Carrickcruppen and if they are able to transfer some of the home form to the away games and become more consistent, then a few more points on the league table will see them to safety. A special mention must go to young Caolan McCullough for making some very intelligent runs and not giving up until the final whistle. A massive improvement is needed for the visit of All-Ireland Club Champions Crossmaglen Rangers on Wednesday night.

CARRICKCRUPPEN RESERVES 2-10 PEARSE OGS 1-9

The Reserve team entertained Pearse Ogs last Wednesday night in the first round of the Reserve championship and against all predictions came away with a 4 point victory. Ogs arrived with a very strong squad and the Cruppen lads were initially overawed with their Cathedral City opponents, giving them too much room and respect, allowing them to coast into a six point lead at half time.

Following the break, a number of positional changes seemed to steady ‘Cruppen and they began to eat into the visitors’ lead. A rather fortuitous goal from a 45m free from Peter Loughran set the wheels in motion for the ‘Cruppen fightback with the same player netting from the penalty spot two minutes later. ‘Cruppen – led by Paul Cunningham in midfield – tied the game up in the last 10 minutes, restricting Ogs to shooting from far out. At the final whistle ‘Cruppen had won by 4 points.

The ‘Cruppen defence was again superbly marshalled by Noel Finnegan and Darren O Grady, with youngsters Conor McShane, Nathan Bradley and Eamon McArdle to the fore. Paul Cunningham got through a mountain of work at midfield, with Lee Fallon taking over after half time to bolster the middle third superbly. As ever, Peter Loughran led the line with aplomb, with Brendan Doran and Dan O Hare always dangerous.

CARRICKCRUPPEN MINORS 0-11 BALLYMACNAB 0-9

Carrickcruppen traveled to Ballymacnab on Monday night last and came home with their first win of the season. In a very even match ‘Cruppen produced a much improved performance with some great individual performances throughout the team; Blaine Hughes, Conor McShane, Nathan Reavey and Ross Flynn having fine games in defence.

Conor Boyle, Nathan Bradley and Seamus Morgan provided a solid platform for going forward. Blaine Malone was excellent in midfield. While in the forward line Aidan Turley, David Craven, Daniel Lewis, Conor Sloan and Caolan McCullough all got on the scoreboard. This was a fine display against a high flying Ballymacnab team and will hopefully kick start their season.
