Newry City U-16s, Meet the Players: Jamie Greenaway
Newry Times recently caught up with another upcoming Newry City Academy talent, Jamie Greenaway:
Name: Jamie Greenaway.
Age: 16.
Position: Goalkeeper.
Previous clubs: Seagoe FC.
Greatest achievement so far in your career? It would have to be getting into the Co.Armagh milk cup squad last year.
Best player you have played against? Rory Hale. Quick feet, good skill and has a powerful strike.
Best ground you have played in? Mourneview park – Glenavon FC.
Who is your sporting hero? Joe Hart. One of the best goalkeepers in the world at the minute.
If you were to throw a party which celebrities or sports people would you ask around? Steven Gerrard, David Beckham, Lionel Messi, Joe Hart and the Newry 16s.
What club would you like to play for in the future? I would like to play for an Newry City in the Premiership or any Irish league club.
What is one thing that you enjoy while playing football? Playing with my mates.
What inspires you to play football? To improve myself as a player to play for a big club.
What is your least favourite training drill? Anything involving sprints.
Who has been the biggest influence in your career so far? My dad as ever since I was young. He would have me outside playing football and he brought me up supporting an amazing team like Liverpool F.C.
What brought you to play for Newry? I had a few of my mates already playing for Newry and when I played a pre-season friendly against them with Seagoe I felt they had a great set up and a good squad and wanted to join.
Who is the biggest joker in the team? Have to be my top man Aaron Duke.
Which team mate has the biggest bag of toiletries? Would have to say me.
Who is the best trainer at the club? Ryan Quinn and Jordan King.
Who is the best/worst dresser in the team? Best would be Lewis Thompson. He is a bit of a spice boy. Worst would be Mark McAteer.
Who has the worst taste in music in the team? Have to say Ryan Quinn any day. Always listening to Justin Bieber before a match.
And finally…What’s your favourite thing about playing for Newry? Have to say playing with a great bunch of lads, manager and coaches are top men and the craic is unreal.
