Local dentist Conor McEnhill is celebrating this week as the only Irish dentist to be recognised in the UK Smile Awards at a prestigious ceremony in London. Now in its fourth year, the Smile awards are the only dental awards in the UK to reward clinical excellence in dental and facial aesthetics. The award was judged by an expert panel, headed by Dr Christopher Orr, one of the UK’s most well known aesthetic dentists and Chair of the British Association of Cosmetic Dentistry. Conor, a partner in the Newry-based practice Appletree Dental Care, was short listed and won best ‘Single Implant Smile’ for his work in recreating a natural smile for a Dundalk woman with a congenital condition which left her with two missing upper front teeth . A delighted Conor said, “I was thrilled and more than a little surprised to be short listed as it is such a prestigious competition but to win is a great honour. The field of aesthetic/cosmetic dentistry is growing so rapidly and these awards are highly coveted. To win against such highly skilled dentists from across the UK is a real endorsement of Irish dentistry.” Commenting on Conor’s winning work Dr Christopher Orr said, “Because of excellent surgical and soft tissue management a great outcome was achieved, giving a result that the judges would have been proud to achieve in their own practices.” Appletree partner Dr Katrina McKevitt was delighted for her colleague to scoop such a prestigious award for his work. “It’s a huge accolade for Conor who is a highly skilled implant dentist and it was probably more of a surprise to him than it was to us. The award is due recognition of his long-standing commitment to clinical excellence and teaching in the field of implant dentistry. Both for Conor personally and for the practice, I am delighted he won this award.”
