The Action Cancer ‘Big Bus’ arrived at Drumaness GAC on Saturday 21st April, and South Down MLA Chris Hazzard was delighted to have been given a tour around the facility with local Down District Cllr Mick Coogan. With the ‘Big Bus’ providing an opportunity for men and women to go along and have a health check in confidence, the Sinn Féin MLA said he was “delighted that such a valuable service was engaging with rural communities across the constituency.”

“Action Cancer’s ability to reach out to towns and villages throughout the north is a real credit to them” said the local MLA, adding that it was “no exaggeration to say they help save lives on a daily basis. I am confident that somebody today from the local area will have availed of the service which may have saved their life. Drumaness GAC must be congratulated for their decision to bring the Action Cancer ‘Big Bus’ to the village. Indeed the Club’s membership and wider community raised the money for this life saving service through a club fundraising night last autumn.”

Local Cllr Mick Coogan echoed Chris Hazzard’s words of praise for the endeavour, adding;

“I would encourage as many people as possible to visit the Action Cancer ‘Big Bus’ when it visits your area in the future. These tried and tested methods of community health do save lives, and we must ensure that our local communities engage with these charities as often as possible.”
