McKevitt calls for extension of Newry Park’n Share
SDLP South Down MLA Karen McKevitt said overflowing car parks are clear proof of demand for Park’n Share facilities along the Newry Bypass which the Department of Regional Development must deal with.
Following a meeting with Roads Minister Danny Kennedy, she said: “I took the Minister out to Sheepbridge to show him just how inadequate the current car park is. It was a very positive meeting and the Minister promised to examine the possibility of extending the car parking. Further along the road at Derrycraw/Beechhill there is such demand people are parking unofficially on a side road and this is causing problems for farmers with machinery.”
She added, “Park’n Share is a sensible policy with positive environmental impact for a relatively modest cost. Concerns about fuel prices are making it a very attractive proposition for commuters so I hope the Minister can move quickly to allow more people to take part.”
