McGreevy selected as SDLP Council Group Leader
SDLP Councillor Connaire McGreevy was this week selected by Newry and Mourne councillors as the areas new group leader.
Speaking enthusiastically about his new challenge, Cllr McGreevy said: “I am delighted to have been given this role to lead a dynamic SDLP team in Newry and Mourne in helping people in this area. We have a dedicated group of councillors and I am looking forward to this opportunity to spearhead our work on the ground and improve people’s quality of life here.”
McGreevy insisted that the SDLP was very concerned about the impending cuts to welfare and working tax credits and will continue to fight to get a fairer deal for people.
He added, “We will also continue to push for greater investment in Newry and Mourne in renewables and improved cross-border co-operation to stimulate our Agri-Food sector and create jobs for the many people in our communities who are currently out of work. As group leader I want to remind the Newry and Mourne residents that the SDLP is a party for the people and that addressing local issues is at the core of what we do. Again I urge people living in Newry and Mourne to contact me with any issues that they feel need attention.”
